High Alert in Saurashtra as Ten Reservoirs Overflow

In Saurashtra, Gujarat, heavy rainfall has led to a high alert being declared due to overflowing reservoirs. The region experienced scattered rainfall today. The Ranjitsagar Dam in Jamnagar overflowed last night, reaching its full capacity. Reports indicate that areas like Una in Gir Somnath saw consistent rain from morning. In Jamwala village, close to the Gir forest, over one inch of rain was recorded. Other areas in Amreli, including Rajula, Jafrabad, and Khambha, also experienced significant rainfall. Heavy rains were noted in the Gir region.

In Bhavnagar district, light rain was recorded in six out of ten talukas this morning. Vallabhipur received the highest rainfall of 0.28 inches, while other areas like Sihor received 0.16 inches, and Umarala recorded 0.08 inches. The reservoirs in various locations, including Dhatarwadi and Surajwadi in Amreli, Vaghadiya in Jamnagar, and Kalagoda in Kutch, have filled to 100% capacity, prompting authorities to issue a high alert.

The Bhadar-2 Dam near Dhoraji in Rajkot also overflowed, leading to the opening of one of its gates by 0.3 meters. This has raised concerns in nearby villages. On average, Jamnagar received between two to six and a half inches of rain. The Ranjitsagar Dam overflowed late last night, marking a significant weather event for the area.

Officials are monitoring the situation closely as additional rainfall is anticipated. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. The government has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to manage the water levels and ensure public safety during this period of heavy rainfall.
