Severe Cyclone Hits Sabarkantha and Aravalli Districts

A powerful cyclone struck the Sabarkantha and Aravalli districts of Gujarat on Sunday night, causing extensive damage in many areas. The cyclone brought strong winds and dust storms that affected villages like Vijaynagar, Poshina, Khedbrahma, Vadali, Idar, Himatnagar, Prantij, and Talod.

The winds were so strong that electric poles fell, disrupting power supply across the region. Residents had to endure a sleepless night amid unbearable heat and humidity. Following the cyclone, light rain fell in several areas, including Himatnagar, but the damage had already been done. Reports indicate that over 200 electric poles were downed across the affected areas.

In Prantij taluka, villages like Vadra, Pogalu, Pallachar, and Raslod reported that more than 50 rooftops of both temporary and permanent houses were blown away. The impact was widespread, affecting various parts of the district.

In Bhiloda, trees were uprooted along the Leelcha-Dholvani road. A cow tragically lost its life when a tree fell on it in Leelcha. Many temporary shelters in Sakariya and surrounding areas were also destroyed.

Power lines were downed in multiple locations, and the strong winds lifted rooftops of animal sheds, causing further distress. In Kishangadh, a wall of a house collapsed, and roofing materials were scattered across the area.

The cyclone’s sudden onset took everyone by surprise, and the local authorities are assessing the damage. Emergency services are expected to respond to the needs of those affected. The cyclone has highlighted the vulnerability of the region to severe weather events, which can disrupt life and cause significant economic losses.

Residents are urged to remain cautious as repairs begin and to report any hazards. The local government is likely to provide assistance to those in need, including temporary shelters for those who have lost their homes. Recovery will take time, but community support and resilience will be vital in overcoming the aftermath of this disaster.
