In a shocking incident in Gujarat’s Dahod district, police seized a car loaded with over 303 kilograms of opium. The event occurred in the village of Gultora, Jhalod, during the early hours of the morning. The police were on patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle. The car, a Creta with the registration number GJ-23-BH-2794, failed to stop when signalled by the officers. Instead, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
Upon searching the unattended car, police discovered 17 bags containing more than 303 kilograms of opium, also known as ‘posh dodas’ or ‘jindvas’. The total value of the seized drugs is estimated to be over ₹9 lakh (approximately £9,000). In addition to the opium, police confiscated the car, which is valued at ₹5 lakh (around £5,000), bringing the total value of the seized items to approximately ₹14 lakh (about £14,000).
The police found an express parcel slip inside the car, which raised further questions about the origin and destination of the opium. They also discovered four different vehicle registration plates hidden under the front seat of the car. This discovery has led to an ongoing investigation to determine if the car’s registration number is genuine.
The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the unidentified driver. This case highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the region. Dahod district, located on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, has been a hotspot for illegal drug trade. It is often used by smugglers to transport drugs into Gujarat.
In a related incident, police in Jhalod recently intercepted another vehicle transporting a large quantity of opium disguised within bags of onions. This vehicle was carrying a shipment worth approximately ₹12.95 lakh (around £12,000). The driver was arrested, and the police seized drugs and a mobile phone from him.
Dahod has seen a rise in drug-related activities, with authorities claiming that the area has become a centre for the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics. The police continue to work diligently to combat this illegal trade, hoping to curb the inflow of drugs into the state.
The local police have also received tips about similar activities, leading to increased patrols and surveillance in the region. Officers are committed to stopping drug traffickers and ensuring the safety of the community. This recent seizure demonstrates their ongoing efforts and highlights the need for continued vigilance against drug trafficking in the area.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information about drug trafficking to come forward. They emphasise that community cooperation is vital in the fight against drugs. The battle against narcotics is ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are determined to protect the public from the dangers associated with drug abuse and trafficking.
