This page sets out the standards and principles that govern how Gujarat News gathers, verifies, writes, and publishes content. It applies to all content published on news.gujarat.in.
1. Independence
Gujarat News is editorially independent. Our coverage is not influenced by advertisers, political parties, government bodies, or commercial interests. Editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of news value and public interest.
2. Accuracy and Verification
We verify information before publication. We publish a story only when its core facts are confirmed by at least two independent, reputable sources (an official document counts as one where it exists), we link those sources in the article, and clearly distinguishing between confirmed facts and unverified allegations. We do not publish rumours or speculation as fact.
3. Fairness and Balance
Where a story involves criticism or serious allegations, we report the response of the person or body concerned when it has been published, and say so when it has not. We represent multiple perspectives on contested issues rather than presenting one side as settled fact.
4. Attribution and Sources
We attribute information to its source wherever possible. We protect the identity of confidential sources who face genuine risk if identified. We do not fabricate quotes or attribute statements to people who did not make them.
5. Corrections Policy
When we make a factual error, we correct it quickly and transparently. Corrections are published on the original article with a clear note indicating what was changed and when. We do not silently alter published articles without noting the change. To report a factual error, email [email protected] with the article URL and the specific claim you believe is incorrect.
6. Use of Technology in Reporting
Our articles are researched and written with the help of AI tools, working from news reports, official notices and public records. A story is published only when its core facts are confirmed by at least two independent, reputable sources, which are linked in the article and listed at the end. Our process checks every draft against those sources before publication, including a check that the wording is our own and not copied. Articles are not individually reviewed by a human editor before they go live, and every article ends with a note saying it was written with AI assistance. The publisher takes full responsibility for all published content.
7. Original Reporting and Source Credit
We credit and link to the sources we draw on. We do not reproduce other outlets’ original reporting as our own. Our value is in providing original local context, verified facts, and editorial analysis relevant to Gujarat readers.
8. Privacy
We respect individuals’ right to privacy and comply with applicable Indian law. We do not publish private information about private individuals unless it is clearly in the public interest. We take particular care with reporting involving minors.
9. Sensitive Content
We report on crime, tragedy, and sensitive topics with appropriate care and restraint. We follow established guidelines on reporting suicide, violence against women, and content involving children.
