Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

Last updated: February 2026

This page sets out the standards and principles that govern how Gujarat News gathers, verifies, writes, and publishes content. It applies to all journalists, contributors, and editors working with news.gujarat.in.

1. Independence

Gujarat News is editorially independent. Our coverage is not influenced by advertisers, political parties, government bodies, or commercial interests. Editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of news value and public interest.

2. Accuracy and Verification

We verify information before publication. Our standards require at least one named or verifiable primary source for factual claims, cross-checking against official records or credible sources where available, and clearly distinguishing between confirmed facts and unverified allegations. We do not publish rumours or speculation as fact.

3. Fairness and Balance

We give subjects of criticism or serious allegations a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication. We represent multiple perspectives on contested issues rather than presenting one side as settled fact.

4. Attribution and Sources

We attribute information to its source wherever possible. We protect the identity of confidential sources who face genuine risk if identified. We do not fabricate quotes or attribute statements to people who did not make them.

5. Corrections Policy

When we make a factual error, we correct it quickly and transparently. Corrections are published on the original article with a clear note indicating what was changed and when. We do not silently alter published articles without noting the change. To report a factual error, email [email protected] with the article URL and the specific claim you believe is incorrect.

6. Use of Technology in Reporting

Gujarat News uses technology tools to assist our editorial workflow, including research, fact-gathering, and drafting. All content published on this site is reviewed, edited, and approved by a human journalist or editor before publication. The editorial team takes full responsibility for all published content. AI-assisted drafts are never published without substantive human review and editing.

7. Original Reporting and Source Credit

We credit and link to the sources we draw on. We do not reproduce other outlets’ original reporting as our own. Our value is in providing original local context, verified facts, and editorial analysis relevant to Gujarat readers.

8. Privacy

We respect individuals’ right to privacy and comply with applicable Indian law. We do not publish private information about private individuals unless it is clearly in the public interest. We take particular care with reporting involving minors.

9. Sensitive Content

We report on crime, tragedy, and sensitive topics with appropriate care and restraint. We follow established guidelines on reporting suicide, violence against women, and content involving children.

10. Complaints

If you have a complaint about our editorial content, please contact us at [email protected]. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
