In Ahmedabad, Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani is actively overseeing road repair work across the city. On his recent inspection, he checked various sites in the eastern part of Ahmedabad, including Virat Nagar, Soni Ni Chali, and Nikol village. The commissioner reported that so far, 7,326 complaints about potholes have been received, with 6,594 already repaired.
The state government has launched a special campaign to maintain road infrastructure, especially after heavy rains affecting bridges and roads. This initiative is implemented under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is carrying out patchwork, repairs, and asphalt laying in different areas.
To resolve citizens’ complaints quickly, Commissioner Pani conducts regular inspections every morning from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. During his recent visit, he monitored ongoing restoration work near the Virat Nagar bus stand and assessed the patchwork on damaged roads due to rain.
Pani explained that the AMC conducts daily inspections to identify potholes and repair them immediately. Repairs are also being carried out for roads damaged due to water and drainage works. The AMC has advanced infrared machines that help in road repairs.
Currently, work is being done using jet patching technology, which is effective for smaller potholes. The AMC also operates its hot mix plant in Pipaldaj, with a capacity of 180 tons per hour. Alongside this, a private hot mix plant is also in operation. So far, around 14,500 cold mix bags have been used in the repair work, along with 7,500 tons of hot mix material.
The field staff of AMC works diligently every day from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, ensuring that road repairs are also conducted at night to avoid inconveniencing citizens during the day. Complaints are received through various means, including the CCRS complaint monitoring system.
Moreover, the AMC uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to monitor potholes. Cameras equipped with AI detect potholes automatically. This proactive approach has led to the identification of 7,326 potholes through complaints and camera monitoring, with 6,594 repairs completed promptly.
The swift actions taken by the AMC have been commendable, as they work hard to ensure that the roads are safe and accessible for all citizens. The integration of technology in monitoring and repairing road conditions is a significant step towards better urban management in Ahmedabad. With continuous efforts, the city aims to improve its infrastructure and ensure a smooth travel experience for its residents.
