Amazon Volunteers Impact Communities in India

Amazon India recently reported a significant increase in community service participation during its Global Month of Volunteering (GMV). Over 66,000 Amazon volunteers contributed their time and skills across more than 530 community initiatives in over 60 cities across the country. These efforts focused on key areas including women’s empowerment, sustainability, food security, education, and community development, working in collaboration with over 100 non-profit organisations.

The initiative took place in July 2025, where volunteers engaged in various activities, demonstrating Amazon’s commitment to supporting the communities where they live and work. Samir Kumar, the Country Manager of Amazon India, highlighted that the power of volunteering goes beyond just one day of service. He stated that it brings lasting change to both the communities and the volunteers themselves.

One notable project involved Amazon employees working with a local school in Bengaluru. They transformed the learning environment by creating colourful learning tools from recycled materials and repainting walls and pillars. This hands-on initiative not only enhanced the school’s atmosphere but also fostered a sense of responsibility among the volunteers.

The collective efforts of the Amazon team have established a true culture of service within the company. From restoring urban wetlands to setting up community kitchens that prepared nearly 200,000 meals, the volunteers have actively worked to address community challenges. This powerful mix of employee enthusiasm and creativity has led to significant transformations in local areas.

Amazon’s volunteering initiatives have also led to tangible changes in various communities. More than 100,000 resource kits have been distributed, supporting critical areas for the year. These kits include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) kits, sports kits, menstrual hygiene kits, first-aid kits, stationery kits, dog care kits, science models, and quiz boards, among other items.

In Hyderabad and Bengaluru, volunteers established Amazon Community Kitchens, preparing around 200,000 meals. More than 600 volunteers collaborated to serve hot, nutritious meals, fostering a strong sense of community and shared purpose.

Additionally, the new initiative named Project Blue aims to restore three urban wetlands in Bengaluru. Volunteers collaborated to gather floating platforms and plant a native aquatic plant, known as Kena Indica, which helps restore the ecosystem of urban lakes.

Amulya Devalaraju, an associate in Amazon’s Customer Service Operations, expressed joy in connecting with amazing individuals dedicated to supporting underserved communities. He mentioned that the most rewarding part of volunteering was witnessing the pure joy of the children and individuals they served.

In conclusion, Amazon’s Global Month of Volunteering not only highlights the commitment of its employees to make a difference but also showcases the positive impact of corporate social responsibility. The initiatives have strengthened community ties and provided essential resources, reinforcing Amazon’s role as a responsible corporate citizen in India.
