In a recent announcement, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has made it mandatory for its officers to attend the office for two hours each morning. This decision aims to improve communication between citizens and officials. Devang Dhania, the chairman of the Municipal Standing Committee, stated that all officers, including the Deputy Commissioner, must be present at the office from 11 AM to 1 PM daily. This will allow citizens to directly present their issues.
The AMC is also planning to renovate the Jayshankar Sundari Auditorium. This auditorium will be handed over to the Municipal Corporation for future events and will feature modern facilities once the renovation is complete. The renovation work has already begun.
In addition to the office attendance rule, the AMC has announced free travel for women on the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival. This initiative will apply to the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) and the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). The corporation has allocated a separate budget for this purpose.
Looking ahead, the AMC is planning a new treatment plant in Jasapur with a capacity of 400 Million Litres per Day (MLD). This is part of a strategy to accommodate future growth and population increases in the city. The AMC has also decided to expand the capacity of the Rasika plant.
To enhance security, the AMC has begun installing CCTV cameras at city junctions. They plan to install 1,000 CCTV cameras in municipal properties to improve safety and monitoring.
Changes have also been made in the Municipal Technical Department. The Additional City Engineer (ACE) for the Water and Drainage department will now oversee these areas, while another ACE will focus on Roads and Buildings.
A new sports complex has been completed in Vastral, providing more opportunities for youth to engage in sports activities.
Devang Dhania emphasized that these steps reflect the AMC’s commitment to development, responsibility, transparency, and citizen welfare. The corporation aims to ensure that the needs of the citizens are met promptly and effectively.
These initiatives show that the AMC is focused on improving the quality of life for Ahmedabad’s residents. By ensuring that officials are present to address citizen concerns and investing in community facilities, the AMC is taking important steps toward a better future for the city.
