Armed Attack at Ahmedabad Jewellers Raises Security Concerns

A shocking attack took place in Ahmedabad, leaving many worried about safety in the city. On Tuesday evening, around 5 pm, a group of seven to eight armed men stormed into Vraj Jewellers on Science City Road. They attacked a well-known builder, Ketan Patel, and businessman Sanjay Bharwad with knives. The incident was captured on CCTV, showing the assailants entering the office before launching their attack. Sanjay Soni, a witness, reported that when he and his associates tried to help, they were also attacked. During the fight, Bharwad was hit with the back of a knife, and Patel suffered a serious head injury. Other associates were also injured. One attacker even threw a brick at the victims. Soni claimed that the attackers, led by notorious criminal Vikram Rabari, came to threaten him and extort money. Patel, who has close links with the jeweller, resisted their threats, which led to the violent confrontation. After the attack, both Patel and Soni accused the Bodakdev police of refusing to register their complaint, or First Information Report (FIR). Patel alleged that the police were afraid to act due to Rabari’s influence. This led to public protests outside Bodakdev police station, where a crowd demanded the registration of the FIR and the arrest of the attackers. The police denied these claims. They stated that preliminary investigations revealed that Soni and Rabari had business dealings for six years, with some payments overdue. Rabari had come to discuss these issues, which escalated into the conflict. The Bodakdev police in-charge mentioned that they had reached out to the victims multiple times to file their complaint. They were ready to register the FIR but claimed the victims wanted to include extortion charges, which they believed did not apply to the case. The attack, occurring during busy hours, has intensified fears about crime in Ahmedabad. The police have seized the CCTV footage for further investigation. The victims are expected to meet with Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G. S. Malik to push for action. While the situation remains tense, updates will follow as authorities work to resolve the matter and ensure safety in the area.
