Banas Dairy’s Water Storage Ponds Overflow with Success

In Banas, a successful water revolution has spread joy among farmers. Banas Dairy has become Asia’s largest dairy due to the milk revolution. Without water, the dairy business cannot thrive. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to action, a water conservation campaign was launched in Banas. Together with public participation, efforts were made to deepen existing ponds and create new ones across all talukas in the district. Recently, good rainfall in the area has filled these ponds, much to the delight of local farmers.

This year, the Dantiwada taluka has recorded significant rainfall. As a result, around 47 ponds in the area have overflowed. Notably, in 2022, five ponds were linked together in the Ranol area of Dantiwada, which has now overflowed due to the heavy rains. Waterfalls from the mountains also contribute to a continuous flow of water into the ponds.

Shankarbhai Chaudhary, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, noted that the geographical conditions in Banas Kanta often lead to water scarcity. Following Prime Minister Modi’s initiative, over 300 large ponds have been constructed in the district. Thanks to the good rains, these reservoirs are now full. There has also been substantial work on rainwater recharge in the district. Under the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign, more than 25,000 recharge wells have been built, allowing rainwater to seep into the ground.

Chaudhary mentioned that with the recent widespread rainfall in the district, the water conservation efforts by both the central and state governments have been a blessing for farmers. In areas like Dantiwada and Amirgarh, where ponds have been created, water shortages will no longer be a problem during the summer. The groundwater levels will rise, supporting both plantation and water conservation efforts in Banas Kanta.

The positive impact of these initiatives can be seen not only in the increased water availability but also in the overall agricultural productivity in the region. Farmers are hopeful that these changes will lead to better crop yields and improved livelihoods. The community’s involvement in these water conservation efforts highlights the importance of teamwork in tackling environmental challenges.

Banas Dairy’s commitment to sustainability and community welfare is evident through these initiatives. With continued efforts and cooperation from farmers, the region can look forward to a more prosperous future. The overflow of ponds is just the beginning of a new era for agriculture in Banas, where water abundance paves the way for growth and development.
