Bhadarvi Poonam Fair 2025: A Spiritual Gathering in Ambaji

The Bhadarvi Poonam Fair is an important event for many devotees in Gujarat. This annual gathering will take place from September 1 to September 7, 2025, at the sacred site of Ambaji in Banaskantha district. The fair is expected to attract millions of pilgrims who come to seek blessings from the goddess Ambaji.

Ambaji is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India, known for its rich spiritual history. Each year, the fair draws devotees from various parts of the country, who travel on foot to reach the temple. The fair represents a blend of devotion, culture, and tradition.

During a recent meeting chaired by Rajendra Kumar, the Secretary of the Gujarat Tourism Department, various arrangements for the fair were discussed. The meeting focused on ensuring the safety and comfort of visitors. Topics included traffic management, electricity supply, drinking water availability, food services, and sanitation facilities. Special attention was given to crowd management to ensure a smooth experience for all attendees.

The Bhadarvi Poonam Fair has a historical significance. It began in 1841 when a group of Brahmins from Patan visited Ambaji to celebrate the birth of a child to a royal family. This tradition of foot pilgrimages continues today, with over 1,500 groups expected to participate in the upcoming fair. Many devotees believe that walking to the temple brings them closer to the goddess and fulfills their wishes.

As part of the fair, devotees also celebrate the festival of Navratri, which is dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga. During Navratri, a nine-day festival, many pilgrims carry Garbas (traditional dance forms) to the temple as part of their devotion. This annual event is not only a spiritual journey but also a cultural celebration.

The preparations for the fair usually begin months in advance. Local authorities work diligently to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place for the influx of pilgrims. This includes setting up temporary accommodations, providing transportation, and ensuring that the temple and surrounding areas are clean and welcoming.

In recent years, the fair faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to cancellations in 2021 and 2022. However, the excitement for the fair’s return in 2025 has generated a positive buzz among devotees. Many are eager to resume their traditional pilgrimage and seek blessings from the goddess.

The significance of the Bhadarvi Poonam Fair goes beyond mere attendance; it is a time for reflection, devotion, and community bonding. The fair serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of Gujarat and the enduring faith of its people.

As the date approaches, preparations will intensify, and the excitement among devotees will continue to grow. The Bhadarvi Poonam Fair is not just an event; it is a celebration of faith, community, and tradition, bringing together millions of people in a shared spiritual experience.
