Celebrating 200 Years of Swami Dayanand Saraswati: A Grand Event in Jammu

A significant event took place recently in Jammu to celebrate two important milestones: the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati and the 150th anniversary of the Arya Samaj. This grand celebration was organized by the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Jammu and Kashmir at Baba Jito Auditorium, Sher-e-Kashmir University.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Acharya Devvrat. During his speech, he highlighted the relevance of the Vedas in resolving today’s issues, such as terrorism and conflict. He expressed pride in the initiatives taken over the past two years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote Arya Samaj programs across the country.

Acharya Devvrat reminded the audience that when Swami Dayanand was born in 1824, India had a population of about 330 million. He courageously fought against superstition, social customs, and hypocrisy, revitalizing interest in the Vedas. His efforts led to the emergence of a new generation of intellectual warriors, including Guru Datt, Swami Shraddhanand, and Pandit Lekh Ram.

He stressed that the Vedas are not meant for a specific group but for the welfare of all humanity. The teachings of Swami Dayanand are still relevant today, and it is our responsibility to spread this knowledge.

The Governor also expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of superstitions and irrational beliefs in society. He emphasized the importance of educating future generations about the Vedas and their teachings, ensuring that this wisdom does not fade away.

The event also featured recognition of individuals who have made notable contributions to agriculture, environmental science, and resource management. Dr. Vivek Manohar Arya was honored for his significant work in these fields.

The Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, led by Narendra Trehan, organized this event with active participation from various members, including Vinay Arya and Rajiv Sethi. This celebration is a reminder of the enduring legacy of Swami Dayanand Saraswati and the ongoing efforts of the Arya Samaj to promote education and social reform in India.

The Arya Samaj, founded by Swami Dayanand, has played a crucial role in addressing social issues and advocating for reform in Hindu society. The celebrations in Jammu were not just a homage to Swami Dayanand but also a call to action for all followers to continue his mission. As the world faces numerous challenges, the teachings of the Vedas can provide guidance and hope for a better future.

In conclusion, the event was a resounding success, celebrating the rich heritage of the Arya Samaj and the timeless teachings of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. It served as a platform to inspire a renewed commitment to the values of education, social justice, and unity among all communities.
