Chaos in Schools as Bomb Threats Send Shockwaves Through Delhi and Bengaluru

On July 18, 2025, over 80 private schools in Delhi and Bengaluru received alarming bomb threat emails. The threats caused widespread panic among parents, students, and school staff. In Bengaluru, about 40 schools were affected, while the same number faced threats in Delhi. Many of the emails contained horrifying messages detailing supposed explosive devices hidden in classrooms. The threats were taken very seriously, prompting a massive response from local police and bomb disposal teams.

The police received an email titled “BOMBS INSIDE THE SCHOOL.” The writer claimed to have planted explosives, specifically mentioning trinitrotoluene (TNT), in black plastic bags within school buildings. The email included violent threats against students and staff, with graphic descriptions that left many feeling unsafe and fearful.

In response to the threats, police in both cities quickly mobilised. They deployed Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), anti-sabotage teams, and cyber investigation units to search the schools. Officers conducted thorough checks of classrooms, storerooms, and other facilities, ensuring the safety of everyone present.

No explosives were ultimately found, but the psychological impact of the threats was significant. Students were frightened, and many parents rushed to schools to collect their children. Reports of crying teachers and terrified students flooded in. One parent, Rashmi Kaul, shared her concern, saying, “My son didn’t sleep all night. He kept asking me if there were really bombs in his school.”

This alarming incident marked the fourth consecutive day that schools in Delhi had received similar threats. The situation raised concerns among security experts. They suggested that the sheer volume and sophistication of the threats pointed to either a disturbed individual with advanced technical skills or a coordinated campaign to instil fear in the public.

Authorities are now investigating the source of the emails. Cybercrime units are collaborating with central agencies to trace the digital footprints left by the sender. The use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and encrypted email domains has complicated the investigation.

Mental health professionals have called for immediate counselling services for students and staff. They emphasised the need for mental health support, as threats like these can have long-lasting effects on children’s well-being. Experts are urging the government to implement emergency mental health response plans in schools to prepare for such incidents in the future.

While many of the bomb threats turned out to be hoaxes, the impact on the community was very real. Schools are now encouraged to review their safety protocols and ensure that students feel secure. The police continue to monitor the situation closely, hoping to prevent future occurrences of this nature.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in schools. As technology advances, so do the methods employed by those who wish to cause harm. Communities must remain vigilant and prepared to respond to threats, no matter how unlikely they may seem. The safety of students and staff should always be a top priority, and the psychological effects of such threats cannot be overlooked.
