DAU School of Law Opens PhD Applications Until August 19

The Dhirubhai Ambani University (DAU) School of Law is now accepting applications for its PhD programme in Law for the academic year 2025-26. This initiative aims to reshape legal education in India, addressing the need for evolving legal frameworks in a rapidly changing world. Applications will close on August 19.

Launched just a year ago, the DAU School of Law focuses exclusively on postgraduate and doctoral studies. The new PhD programme is designed to combine rigorous academic research with practical applications in the law. According to Avinash Dadhich, the director of the School of Law, the curriculum is tailored for both full-time and part-time scholars. It aims to build expertise in high-impact areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Protection, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues, Carbon Markets and Sustainability, and Construction Law and Arbitration.

This dual approach of academic and industry involvement ensures that students gain valuable insights from leading legal academics and professionals. The programme will feature co-supervision by top law firms and corporate general counsels, as well as faculty from prestigious institutions, including Ivy League and Russell Group universities.

Full-time PhD scholars will receive a monthly fellowship of ₹50,000, while part-time scholars will benefit from a fully sponsored annual foreign immersion trip for up to three years. This structure not only emphasises academic growth but also prepares candidates for real-world challenges in the legal field.

The PhD in Law is designed for scholars and professionals seeking to conduct research that is both academically rigorous and impactful. Candidates will engage with legal reform, policy engagement, and have opportunities to participate in conferences related to their research. The school offers a unique mentorship model, pairing each PhD candidate with an academic supervisor and an industry mentor. This collaboration helps bridge the gap between legal theory and practice.

In addition to the PhD programme, the DAU School of Law is also planning to introduce a Master of Laws (LLM) programme in the near future. This will further enhance the academic offerings and provide varied educational paths for aspiring legal professionals.

The DAU School of Law is located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and is committed to contributing to India’s long-term developmental goals. The programme aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, preparing scholars to take active roles in the future of law and policy in India.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply before the deadline of August 19. The application process is straightforward, and further details can be found on the university’s official website. This is a significant opportunity for those looking to advance their careers in law and contribute to meaningful legal research and practice in India.
