Dharoi Dam Development Project Boosts Tourism and Employment in Gujarat

In a significant move for tourism in Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has inspected various projects aimed at developing the Dharoi Dam area into a world-class sustainable tourism and pilgrimage destination. This initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to enhance local employment opportunities and promote eco-friendly tourism.

The development project for the Dharoi region is estimated to cost around ₹1,100 crores and will be implemented in three phases. The project focuses on spiritual, adventure, eco, and recreational activities that will not only attract tourists but also create new job opportunities. The government aims to promote the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative through this project, encouraging local businesses and crafts.

Dharoi, like many other tourist destinations in Gujarat, is being developed as an iconic place. The government is also planning to create a tourism circuit that includes notable sites in North Gujarat, such as Polo Forest, Taranga, Vadanagar, and Ambaji. This circuit aims to connect these locations, enhancing the overall tourism experience in the region.

During his visit to the Dharoi Dam, Chief Minister Patel noted that the dam has received a substantial amount of new water this year, approximately 70.80%. This observation is crucial as the state government continues its efforts to ensure the safety and maintenance of its water reservoirs.

Gujarat is home to 1,124 water reservoirs, including 22 large dams, 96 medium dams, and 1,006 small ones. Pre-monsoon inspections of these dams are conducted according to guidelines set by the National Dam Safety Authority. As a result, all dams have been declared safe and secure.

The state government has made it a priority to ensure that all water bodies are adequately monitored, with real-time data being shared with relevant authorities through WhatsApp, email, and Google Sheets. This proactive approach is crucial for maintaining the safety of the dams, especially with the upcoming monsoon season.

In addition to the safety inspections, the government is also planning to develop a tent city near the Dharoi Dam to cater to tourists. This tent city will feature luxury tents, dining facilities, and cultural programmes, providing visitors with a unique experience in the natural surroundings.

The Dharoi Dam Development Project is expected to significantly boost tourism in the region, attracting visitors from across India and beyond. The government’s commitment to creating a sustainable tourism model will not only benefit the local economy but also preserve the natural beauty of the area.

With ongoing support from state officials, including Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi and various departmental heads, the project is well on its way to transforming the Dharoi Dam area into a premier tourist destination. The project also aims to increase green cover around the dam, contributing to environmental conservation efforts in Gujarat.

As the state government continues to invest in tourism infrastructure, the Dharoi Dam Project stands out as a key initiative that promises to enhance the region’s appeal as a tourist hotspot, while also supporting local communities and businesses in the process.
