In a bizarre incident in Mehsana, a man was tricked into accepting fake currency notes worth 15 lakhs. This happened in Thol village, near Kadi taluka. A week ago, a scam artist lured local resident Mahendrabhai Ratilal Patel with a tempting offer. He promised that those who donate money to a temple could receive 500 rupee notes in return, along with a 10% commission.
Mahendrabhai, who lives in Rudrakutir Society in Kadi, received a phone call from his friend Jigar Thakor from Valsad. Jigar informed him about a trustee named Dashrathbhai Vithalbhai in Govindpura village. Dashrathbhai was allegedly exchanging donations for currency notes, enticing people with the promise of commission.
On July 31, Mahendrabhai and three others were called to meet Kishorsinh Bapu, the person behind the scam, who was to provide them with the promised currency notes. They met near the Shilaj road in Thol, where Dashrathbhai arrived in a car.
As the group waited, they expected to receive the genuine currency notes. However, when they opened the bag, they discovered that all the notes were fake, specifically children’s bank notes. Realising they had been scammed, Mahendrabhai immediately filed a complaint at the Bavla police station against Kishorsinh.
This incident raises serious concerns about the increasing prevalence of counterfeit currency schemes in Gujarat. Local authorities are now investigating the matter further to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Citizens are urged to be cautious and vigilant against such scams that take advantage of people’s trust and greed.
In recent years, the issue of counterfeit notes has become a growing problem in India. This situation serves as a reminder for everyone to be wary of too-good-to-be-true offers, especially when they involve financial transactions. The police recommend that anyone who suspects they have encountered counterfeit currency should report it immediately to the authorities.
The police’s quick response to this incident may help them catch the culprits involved in this fraudulent scheme. As investigations continue, the community hopes for justice and the prevention of future scams. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed and avoid falling victim to such deceitful practices. The need for public awareness and education on the matter has never been more critical. It is essential for communities to come together and support each other in identifying and reporting suspicious activities related to counterfeit currency.
