In Ahmedabad, four schools have been fined ₹5 lakh each for charging fees without proper approval. The schools are Gems Genesis International School, Shiv Ashish School, Tulip International School, and Vedant International School. This action was taken by the Ahmedabad Zone Fee Regulation Committee after parents complained about the fees. The committee found that these schools were collecting pre-primary fees without the required permission. According to the regulations, schools must get approval from the fee committee before charging fees for pre-primary classes. However, many schools have been ignoring this rule and charging higher fees. The committee held hearings to discuss the schools’ explanations but found them unsatisfactory. As a result, the schools have been instructed to pay the fines within 15 days. This move aims to promote transparency and combat unjustified fee increases in private schools.

The fines are part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to regulate fees in private educational institutions. Recently, the committee has penalized several schools for similar violations. Investigations revealed that some schools submitted identical financial records, which raised suspicions. Parents had reported that schools were charging extra fees under various categories without authorization. The District Education Officer has directed all private schools to submit affidavits to ensure compliance with the regulations.

This action comes in the wake of increasing complaints from parents regarding high fees. In recent times, the Fee Regulatory Committee has imposed fines on multiple schools across Gujarat. The highest fines have reached ₹2.5 lakh for serious violations. The authorities are keen on ensuring that schools do not take advantage of parents by charging unauthorized fees. The committee’s chairman, a retired district judge, emphasizes the importance of adherence to fee regulations.

The recent fines highlight the importance of compliance with the Gujarat Self-Financed Schools (Regulation of Fees) Act of 2017. This Act was introduced to ensure fair fee structures in private schools. Schools must present their fee structures to the committee for approval. If schools fail to comply, they risk facing legal actions and hefty fines.

In Ahmedabad, around 75 pre-schools are currently under investigation for similar fee-related issues. Many of these institutions are operating on the same campuses as primary schools, which complicates the fee structure. The committee is working with District Education Officers to gather data on these pre-schools and ensure they follow the regulations.

Parents are encouraged to report any irregularities they encounter regarding school fees. The committee is committed to protecting the interests of parents and students alike. This recent action against the four schools serves as a warning to others that violations will not be tolerated. The authorities aim to create a more transparent and fair educational environment for all students in Ahmedabad and beyond.
