Godhra MLA C.K. Roulji has made a significant proposal to the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He aims to provide irrigation facilities to farmers in the Panchmahal district. This includes access to water from the Narmada Main Canal and the Panam High-Level Canal. The proposal was presented during discussions with government officials.
Farmers in the Godhra area face challenges due to limited irrigation water. The MLA highlighted the need for better water supply to ensure agricultural productivity. He suggested plans to fill local lakes and reservoirs with water from the Narmada canal. This could potentially irrigate around 27,000 hectares of farmland.
The Panchmahal district relies heavily on the Panam Main Canal. Changes in the canal’s structure have made it difficult for some areas to receive adequate water. To address this, a plan was proposed to connect the Panam High-Level Canal to the main canal. The goal is to provide 100 cubic seconds of irrigation water to the underserved regions. A budget of ₹68.81 crores has been allocated for this initiative, which aims to resolve the water scarcity issue in these areas.
The Panam Main Canal has several distribution channels. However, many farmers still face water shortages. By improving the distribution system, more water can be delivered directly to farms. This would benefit around 1,000 hectares in the Nadi Sar village of Godhra.
The MLA also called for surveys to assess the need for upgrading the canal’s capacity. Discussions took place in Gandhinagar involving key officials from the irrigation department. The aim is to ensure timely approval and implementation of these plans.
The proposal has received support from local leaders, including the chairman of the Godhra Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Praveen Singh Roulji, and the president of the Farmers Union, Khuman Singh Chauhan. They expressed gratitude for addressing the farmers’ needs and concerns.
In summary, the irrigation projects proposed by MLA C.K. Roulji aim to improve the agricultural landscape in Panchmahal district. These efforts will help enhance water supply, ensuring that local farmers can cultivate their lands effectively. With government cooperation, the implementation of these plans is expected to benefit many in the region, contributing to the overall agricultural growth in Gujarat.
