Ahmedabad is facing serious traffic problems due to illegal parking. As the number of vehicles increases, the roads are becoming more congested. Commuters are frustrated by cars parked in the wrong places, making it hard to drive safely.
Reports indicate that despite efforts from the traffic police to control illegal parking, many drivers still ignore the rules. Vehicles parked along the right side of the road, especially near dividers, pose significant safety risks. Priya Soni, a scooter user, expressed her anger. She said, “Parking illegally on both sides of the road is a serious problem. It adds to our daily struggles during commutes.”
In areas like Bhuyangdev Road and the stretch from Balolnagar to Vyaswadi, many cars are parked wrongly. This careless behaviour is not limited to one road. Busy streets like Gurukul Road and Drive-In Road also see cars parked beyond the designated yellow lines, causing further traffic issues.
Despite the Traffic Department’s efforts to tackle illegal parking, the problem persists. Karan Mehta, a regular commuter on CG Road, highlighted that two-wheelers are often towed, but cars frequently escape punishment. He mentioned, “Cars parked beyond the yellow lines are everywhere, especially on CG Road and Gurukul Road. This creates serious traffic jams. Some drivers even sit inside their cars to avoid being towed.”
One major reason for this ongoing issue is the lack of proper parking facilities. Commercial areas like CG Road and Gurukul Road attract many visitors, but there are not enough parking spaces available. As a result, drivers are forced to park on the main roads, which blocks traffic and worsens congestion.
Joint CP (Traffic) N N Chaudhari stated, “We are taking strict measures against poorly parked vehicles across the city.” However, many commuters feel the actions taken are not enough. With the city’s population growing and more vehicles on the roads, the need for better parking solutions is urgent.
Residents of Ahmedabad are calling for more awareness about the importance of parking laws. They hope this will lead to safer roads and smoother traffic. Until then, the struggle with illegal parking continues, affecting the daily lives of many commuters. The city needs to address this issue to ensure a safer and more efficient travel experience for everyone.
