Porbandar, known as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, hosted a special ceremony to mark the 79th Independence Day of India. The event took place under the chairmanship of Governor Acharya Devvrat. Many dignitaries attended, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
The ceremony, held at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, was filled with patriotic spirit. Governor Devvrat conveyed his best wishes for the Independence Day, emphasising the importance of remembering leaders like Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He highlighted Gandhi’s efforts in preserving India’s national and spiritual heritage during the freedom struggle.
“If today’s youth emulate the efforts of our freedom fighters, India can achieve multi-dimensional development,” he said. The Governor stressed that each individual’s actions are vital for the nation’s progress. He urged everyone to work with a sense of duty and integrity for the welfare of society.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is progressing towards comprehensive development. The Governor praised the modernisation in agriculture and infrastructure in Gujarat, noting that the state has become a growth engine for the country.
Devvrat explained the principles of truth, non-violence, and self-control, stating that true religion is what endures over time. He encouraged everyone to practice truth in their lives, assuring that it would lead to happiness.
After the speeches, the Governor and Chief Minister exchanged greetings with attendees, celebrating the spirit of freedom. The Governor also visited a natural farming fair, engaging with farmers and encouraging them to adopt natural farming practices.
The ceremony included patriotic songs performed by the police band, filling the air with national pride. This event is part of a unique tradition established by Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The ‘At Home’ programme aims to foster community spirit and celebrate national events across the state.
Notable attendees included various ministers, local leaders, and citizens of Porbandar, all united in celebration of India’s independence. The spirit of unity and patriotism was palpable as the community came together to honour the sacrifices made for freedom and to inspire future generations to contribute to the nation’s growth.
As Gujarat continues to lead in various sectors, the commitment to uphold the values of freedom and development remains strong. Events like this serve as a reminder of the collective responsibility we share in nurturing our heritage and advancing our nation towards a brighter future.
