Amit Chavda, the new president of the Gujarat Congress, began his term with a pilgrimage to the famous Ambaji temple. He participated in a procession, despite the rain, and hoisted the flag at the temple’s peak. This marked the start of his leadership in the party. After the ceremony, Chavda took the opportunity to criticize the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on various issues, including corruption and rising prices.
During his speech, Chavda claimed that BJP leaders are indulging in corruption, especially in the dairy sector in Banaskantha district. He stated that farmers are suffering as a result of this corruption, which he believes is widespread in the state. Chavda described the current BJP government as a new form of colonial rule, accusing them of allowing corruption to thrive, leading to the suffering of innocent people, including children and students.
Chavda was joined by several prominent leaders at the event, including MP Geniben Thakor and MLA Jignesh Mevani. He pointed out that before any projects are approved, BJP members are already aware of them and often buy land at low prices for their benefit. He claimed that a significant scam of Rs 500 crore related to land acquisition has been uncovered in Banaskantha.
Amit Chavda is a prominent figure in Gujarat politics. He has been a member of the Indian National Congress for many years and has served multiple terms in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. His political career began with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and later as the president of the Indian Youth Congress. Chavda has a strong connection with the local community, being a farmer’s son himself.
His recent appointment comes after the Congress faced setbacks in recent by-elections, which led to the resignation of the previous Congress president, Shaktisinh Gohil. Chavda’s leadership is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections. His experience and understanding of the state’s socio-political dynamics are expected to help the Congress regain its foothold in Gujarat.
In response to the challenges faced by the party, Chavda plans to focus on organizational strength and social inclusion. He aims to address the concerns of various communities, particularly farmers and the youth, to build a strong support base. With his leadership, the Congress hopes to improve its performance in future elections and challenge the BJP’s dominance in the state.
Chavda’s commitment to fighting corruption and advocating for farmers’ rights will be key themes in his tenure. He believes that the people of Gujarat deserve better governance and accountability from their leaders. As he embarks on this new journey, Chavda’s ability to connect with the electorate will be crucial in shaping the future of the Congress party in Gujarat.
