Gujarat Experiences Heavy Rainfall Across 25 Districts

Gujarat has recently experienced heavy rainfall across 25 districts, affecting 90 talukas. The latest report from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar indicates that Jalalpore taluka in Navsari district recorded the highest rainfall at approximately 5.24 inches in just 24 hours. As of July 23, 2025, the average rainfall across the state has reached around 54.67%.

In addition to Navsari, other areas have also seen significant rainfall. For instance, Surat’s Mahuva received 2.20 inches, and Ganadevi in Navsari reported 2.13 inches. The rainfall situation varies across the state, with some districts experiencing over 1 inch of rain, while others received less than 1 inch.

The Narmada dam, crucial for the state’s water supply, is currently 58.19% full, along with 206 other reservoirs that are more than 60% filled. The state has issued high alerts for 48 dams, alerts for 17 dams, and warnings for 25 others due to the heavy rainfall.

Since the onset of the monsoon on June 1, 2025, authorities have relocated a total of 4,278 citizens to safer places. Additionally, 689 people have been rescued from various areas. The government has deployed 12 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 20 teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) across different districts.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned fishermen not to venture into the sea until July 26, 2025, due to dangerous weather conditions. Power supply, which was disrupted due to the rains, has been fully restored by the Gujarat Energy Development Corporation Limited. According to the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), all bus routes are currently operational despite the heavy rainfall.

The weather department predicts that the state will continue to experience heavy rainfall over the next few days, which could significantly impact agriculture and urban life. With thunder and lightning expected, many districts are on alert. The rainfall data shows an uneven distribution, with some regions receiving adequate rainfall while others remain dry.

Farmers in low-lying areas are particularly affected, as heavy rains have caused flooding in fields, damaging crops. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall has benefited some farmers’ crops. The urban areas are facing challenges due to waterlogging, leading to traffic congestion and exposing weaknesses in the drainage systems. The administration is under pressure to quickly resolve these issues.

In summary, Gujarat is currently facing a challenging situation due to heavy rainfall, with authorities actively managing the impacts on residents and infrastructure. The next few days will be crucial as the state braces for more rain, prompting vigilance among the public and officials alike. The overall response to the situation will be vital in ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens during this monsoon season.
