Gujarat High Court Issues Warning Against Political Pressure on Traffic Operations

The Gujarat High Court has firmly warned any political figures who interfere with government operations, particularly regarding traffic management in Ahmedabad. The court stated that any political person who tries to obstruct the work of officials will face contempt of court charges. This warning comes after complaints were raised about political pressure being applied on the police during their traffic operations.

In Ahmedabad, traffic problems and road encroachments have become major issues. The city’s traffic police have been conducting drives to address these problems. However, the government reported to the court that their officials were being hindered by political pressures. The High Court demanded that names of those responsible for such interference be provided.

Hardik Brahmbhatt, Secretary of the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association, shared details of the court’s response. The government’s lawyer mentioned that certain groups were using political pressure to obstruct the progress of government work. This has created delays and complications in carrying out essential tasks.

The court insisted on transparency, stating that if any individuals are causing disturbances, they must be named to ensure accountability. The High Court expressed disappointment over the spread of misinformation about officers working on the ground, particularly at the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) level. The court highlighted that no one has the right to stop government officials from performing their duties.

The Gujarat High Court instructed the government to provide details about individuals causing disruptions. It noted that officers were working under court directives, and any interference in their duties would not be tolerated. Moreover, the court warned that it would take suo motu action against anyone obstructing government operations related to traffic management and encroachments.

The government has reported that it is actively removing illegal encroachments from major roads in the city, including H.L. Road, IIM Road, and C.P.T. Road. All encroachments have been cleared to ensure free movement on these roads. The city is preparing for upcoming international events, which heightens the urgency of removing these obstacles.

Efforts are also being made to eliminate encroachments in the Bopal-Ghuma area. The government is committed to making the city encroachment-free, creating an environment suitable for hosting significant events. There is a clear message from the High Court: political elements attempting to exert pressure will not be tolerated. The court expects the government to act decisively against any interference, ensuring that public safety and order are maintained in Ahmedabad’s traffic system.
