Gujarat Honoured with Three Awards for Organ Donation and Transplantation

Gujarat is set to receive three prestigious awards for its remarkable achievements in organ donation and transplantation. The Gujarat government, New Surat Civil Hospital, and the Kidney Institute in Ahmedabad will be recognised for their significant contributions to the field.

The awards will be presented on August 2nd in New Delhi as part of the National Organ Donation Day celebrations. This day is marked annually on August 3rd to promote awareness about organ donation across the country.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Health Minister Rishikesh Patel, the health department has made commendable efforts in promoting organ donation. The Gujarat government will receive the ‘Excellence in Promotion of Organ Donation’ award, which acknowledges its initiatives in raising awareness about organ donation.

New Surat Civil Hospital will be awarded as the ‘Best Non-Transplant Organ Retrieval Centre’. This hospital has played a crucial role in the donation process, significantly increasing the number of organs retrieved from brain-dead donors.

The Kidney Institute has been recognised as the ‘Best Hospital for Transplantation in the Country’. Over the past five years, the institute has shown remarkable growth in public awareness about organ donation. As a result, the number of brain-dead organ donors has significantly increased.

The Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) is set to receive the ‘Best Government Hospital in Organ Transplantation in the Country’ award. The IKDRC has performed a total of 511 organ transplantations, including kidneys, livers, and pancreases, the highest in the nation for the year 2024. This achievement highlights the institute’s dedication to providing top-notch services in organ donation and transplantation.

Gujarat has been increasingly recognised for its efforts in this crucial area. The awards celebrate the hard work of the staff and medical professionals who contribute tirelessly to save lives through organ donation. The New Surat Civil Hospital’s award as the ‘Best Non-Transplant Organ Retrieval Centre’ reflects its significant role in facilitating organ donation from brain-dead patients.

The government’s initiative to promote organ donation has led to remarkable results, with the number of organ donors rising steadily. The efforts are recognised not just within Gujarat, but at a national level, showing the state’s commitment to healthcare and community service.

Overall, these awards serve as a testament to the effective collaboration between the government, hospitals, and organisations dedicated to promoting organ donation. This recognition encourages further efforts and inspires other states to enhance their organ donation programmes.

As Gujarat continues to lead in organ transplantation, the impact of these awards will likely foster increased public awareness and encourage more individuals to consider becoming organ donors.
