In Gujarat, strict actions have been taken against two schools in Ghatlodia. The District Education Officer (DEO) has recommended that the Gujarat Board cancel their recognition. The schools are Prem Vidya Mandir and Kuldeep English School. Both schools are located on the same premises and are managed by the same group. The DEO, R M Chaudhari, stated that there were serious violations of norms. A committee was formed to investigate these schools under the Right to Education Act.

The inquiry found that the schools moved to a new location without proper permission from the education board. They were originally allowed to operate from sector-3 in Chanakyapuri. However, they shifted to sector-2 without the required approvals. This new location does not have adequate classrooms, playgrounds, or other modern facilities necessary for quality education.

The DEO explained that the committee’s recommendation was based on these irregularities. It highlighted that the new premises lacked essential infrastructure. The findings have raised concerns about the quality of education being provided to students.

The derecognition of schools is not a unique case. Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) took action against 20 schools across India. They derecognized 17 schools and downgraded 3 for similar irregularities. The CBSE found issues like fake documents, incorrect information, and a shortage of qualified teachers.

The impact of such actions is significant. Students in derecognized schools must find new places to study. Parents will face the challenge of relocating their children. Those in downgraded schools may have to meet extra conditions to sit for board exams. These measures are crucial for maintaining educational standards in India.

The DEO’s inspections are part of a larger effort to ensure proper compliance with educational regulations. In a recent sweep, various private schools were found operating without mandatory recognition under the Right to Education Act. Schools like Maa Sharda School and Bright Future School faced scrutiny during these checks. Authorities discovered that these institutions lacked necessary documentation and had not applied for RTE recognition.

The inspections revealed alarming conditions. Students were found studying in overcrowded rooms with insufficient furniture. Many lacked basic facilities, such as clean drinking water and hygienic toilets. There was also a notable absence of trained teachers. Concerns were raised about students older than 15 studying in primary classes, which violates age-related provisions of the RTE Act.

In addition to inspections, the education department conducted a school admission campaign for the 2025-26 academic year. This campaign aimed to create awareness about the importance of quality education. The DEO led the initiative in Giaspura, encouraging parents to enroll their children in government-run schools.

This campaign saw immediate success, with over 102 children enrolled in Government Primary School, Lohara, and 19 at Government Primary School, Giaspura. Parents showed a positive response, understanding the need for regulated education. The collaborative efforts of education officials played a vital role in these successful outcomes.

The actions taken by the DEO highlight a commitment to improving the quality of education in Gujarat. Derecognition of schools that do not meet standards protects students’ interests. It ensures that all children have access to a safe and conducive learning environment.

As these developments unfold, the education landscape in Gujarat continues to evolve. The focus remains on ensuring that all educational institutions adhere to the established norms. This is essential for fostering a robust educational framework that benefits students, parents, and society at large.
