In a significant move towards urban transformation, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved ₹4,179 crore for various development projects across the state. This initiative is part of the ongoing Urban Development Year 2025, aimed at enhancing the living conditions for citizens. The funds will benefit seven municipal corporations and twelve municipalities, including new municipalities in Morbi, Porbandar, and Nadiad.
The Urban Development Year was first launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2005. It laid the foundation for structured urban development. Two decades later, the Gujarat government continues this legacy, celebrating 2025 as a year focused on urban growth and citizen empowerment.
Chief Minister Patel stated that the approved budget is part of the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme. This effort aims to provide numerous public welfare projects throughout cities.
The allocation includes ₹3,768 crore specifically for infrastructure development. This will cover 349 projects related to urban mobility and physical infrastructure in Vadodara, receiving ₹455 crore. Rajkot will benefit from ₹367 crore for 302 projects, while Ahmedabad is allocated ₹2,940 crore for 252 projects.
Additionally, ₹6.20 crore has been approved for eleven projects in the newly established Porbandar municipal corporation. There is also a focus on icon roads and urban street constructions with a total budget of ₹19 crore. Morbi will receive ₹15 crore, Nadiad ₹13 crore, and Rajkot ₹136 crore for these initiatives.
Moreover, ₹93 crore has been earmarked for water supply lines and stormwater drainage systems. Morbi will receive ₹61.64 crore for this, while Savarkundla and Dhanera will get ₹19.28 crore and ₹11.31 crore, respectively.
The Chief Minister also approved ₹14 crore for distinct identity projects in the Veraval, Patan, and Amod municipalities and ₹2.72 crore for community partnership projects in Vismagar, Borsad, and Viramgam.
Furthermore, ₹80 crore is allocated for the development of outgrowth areas in Rajkot. This extensive plan aims to create smart, sustainable, and dynamic urban centres in Gujarat, following the goal of building citizen-centric cities.
This new budget reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents, ensuring that Gujarat continues to grow and develop in line with modern needs. The projects will not only improve facilities but also boost local economies, providing jobs and better services for the community. Citizens are hopeful that these developments will lead to significant improvements in their daily lives, making Gujarat a better place to live and work.
