Gujarat’s Water Reservoirs Benefit from Heavy Rainfall

Gujarat has received significant rainfall during the current monsoon season, leading to a remarkable increase in water levels across the state’s reservoirs. As of now, 24 reservoirs in Gujarat are completely filled, and 54 reservoirs have water levels between 70% and 100%. This is a positive sign for the state’s agriculture and water supply.

As per the latest reports, the total water storage in 207 reservoirs across Gujarat has reached 54% of their total capacity. The Sardar Sarovar dam, which is vital for the state, currently holds 49.42% of its capacity. Last year, at this time, the water level in these reservoirs was only 39.55%, indicating a significant improvement this year.

The distribution of water levels varies across different regions of the state. In central Gujarat, 17 reservoirs have an impressive 62.83% water storage, while in Saurashtra, 141 reservoirs hold 62.37%. In Kutch, 20 reservoirs have 56.07% capacity, and in southern Gujarat, 13 reservoirs have 55.67%. Northern Gujarat is slightly lower, with 15 reservoirs at 46.79%.

The rainfall has also been substantial in different parts of the state. Kutch has received an average of 57% rainfall, while southern Gujarat has recorded 52.18%. Saurashtra has seen 47.01%, and central Gujarat has experienced 45.90% rainfall. Northern Gujarat trails with an average of 42.08%.

This heavy rainfall has resulted in 38 reservoirs being put on high alert due to overflowing conditions. 20 reservoirs have been marked as alert, while 20 others are under warning. The state’s water resources department has been monitoring these levels closely to ensure safety and manage water resources efficiently.

The heavy rains have impacted the roads in the state. In Vadodara district, two state highways and one national highway in Chhota Udepur are currently closed. However, all other roads are operational, and efforts are underway to reopen the closed routes as soon as possible.

Farmers across the state are relieved with the arrival of rain, as it helps nourish their crops after a dry spell. The rainfall is expected to continue, bringing more relief to the agricultural sector. The government is urging caution in areas prone to flooding and advising residents to stay informed about weather updates.

In summary, the heavy rainfall in Gujarat has significantly improved water levels in reservoirs, which is good news for agriculture and water supply. The situation is being closely monitored, and necessary actions are being taken to ensure public safety and resource management.
