The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced an orange alert for five districts in Gujarat. These districts include Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, and Rajkot. The alert warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall expected within the next 24 hours.
A yellow alert has also been issued for Ahmedabad and other areas of Gujarat. This indicates that light thunderstorms, lightning, and surface winds up to 30-40 km/h are likely.
In the last 24 hours, Porbandar received the highest rainfall in the state, measuring 4.4 inches. Dwarka and Keshod also experienced significant rainfall. The monsoon is active across the Saurashtra-Kutch region, and more rain is anticipated in the coming days.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in Morbi, Gir Somnath, Kutch, and coastal Diu. The yellow alert has been extended to cover regions in North and South Gujarat, as well as the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Districts such as Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, and Anand have been warned about thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds.
In Ahmedabad, the city has seen 0.33 inches of rain in the past day. The temperature reached a maximum of 32.8°C and a minimum of 26.2°C. Light to moderate showers are expected to persist over the next few days.
The IMD’s weekly forecast suggests that most parts of Gujarat will likely see light to moderate rainfall until July 27. Widespread showers are expected in North and South Gujarat on July 26. No significant changes in weather patterns are anticipated after this period.
Residents are advised to take precautions due to the potential for flooding and other weather-related incidents. Local authorities are on high alert to ensure the safety of the public during this intense weather period.
The IMD urges people to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and alerts. It is crucial for residents in affected areas to remain cautious and to follow safety measures, especially in vulnerable locations.
As the monsoon season continues, the impact of heavy rains can be significant. Communities are encouraged to report any emergencies and to support one another during adverse weather conditions.
In summary, with the IMD’s alerts in place, residents of Gujarat, particularly in the warned districts, should prepare for heavy rains and possible disruptions. Stay safe and informed as the weather evolves over the coming days.
