On a sunny day, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel inaugurated the Urban Forest Park in the Lambha ward of Ahmedabad. This park was developed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation as part of a public-private partnership. During the event, the Chief Minister also unveiled a statue of Lord Birsa Munda, a respected figure in Indian history.

The Urban Forest covers an area of 4,464 square meters and was built at a cost of ₹55 lakh. It features a variety of indigenous trees, including Sag, Kher, Bamboo, Siris, Sisu, and Arjun. In total, around 8,000 trees have been planted using the Miyawaki method, which promotes dense and fast-growing forests. Additionally, a 250-meter long walking path has been constructed for visitors.

The inauguration event was attended by several important figures, including Mayor Pratibhaben Jain and Municipal Commissioner Banchanidhi Pani. Local MLAs, council members, and citizens also joined the celebration. The Chief Minister shared that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation aims to make the city one of the cleanest in India. As part of this vision, the city is also focusing on becoming greener.

The mission ‘Million Trees 2025’ has set an ambitious target of planting 40 lakh trees across the city. So far, a significant number of trees have already been planted, with 27,11,443 recorded by August 7, 2025. This means the city has achieved 66.77% of its goal, showcasing a strong commitment to environmental improvement.

The Urban Forest Park is just one of many initiatives under this mission. Across Ahmedabad, there are currently 198 Oxygen Parks or Urban Forests, developed using the Miyawaki method. The distribution of these parks is as follows: 58 in the East Zone, 30 in the West Zone, 29 in the North Zone, 18 in the South Zone, 32 in the North-West Zone, and 31 in the South-West Zone.

In addition to these parks, Ahmedabad boasts a total of 310 public gardens. The Municipal Corporation has planted over 1 crore trees in the last six years to enhance the green cover of the city. The planting statistics for the last six years show consistent growth in tree planting efforts, with specific numbers for each year indicating a proactive approach to urban greening.

The event also highlighted the historical significance of Lord Birsa Munda, who fought for the rights of tribal communities against colonial rulers. His legacy is celebrated widely, and the statue in the park serves as a reminder of his contributions and influence.

As Ahmedabad continues to expand its green spaces, initiatives like the Urban Forest Park in Lambha play a crucial role in improving urban life quality, promoting biodiversity, and encouraging community engagement with nature. The ongoing efforts aim to create a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable city for future generations.
