The Indian government has announced an increase in support prices for various crops in Gujarat for the 2025-26 kharif season. This decision aims to provide economic security to farmers and ensure that they receive fair prices for their produce. The support price has increased by ₹69 to ₹596 per quintal compared to last year.

Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the timely announcement. Farmers can now plan their sowing according to the minimum prices they are guaranteed to receive. This is crucial for crops like peanuts, cotton, and millet, which are set to be planted soon.

The new support prices include ₹7,263 for peanuts, ₹8,110 for long-staple cotton, ₹2,369 for millet, and ₹2,775 for bajra, among others. The increase in prices aims to encourage farmers and boost their confidence. Notably, the support price for cotton has risen by ₹589 per quintal and for sesame by ₹579 per quintal compared to last year.

The timely announcement allows farmers to make informed decisions and improve their agricultural practices. It also reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the farming community. The increase in prices is expected to have a positive impact on the livelihoods of many farmers in Gujarat, helping them to achieve better financial stability.

In another related move, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has decided to provide irrigation water a month early to farmers in the Narmada command area. This will allow them to plan their crops effectively and enhance productivity. Typically, water is available after June 15 for the kharif season, but this early provision will significantly benefit farmers, especially for crops like cotton.

The government’s initiatives aim to improve agricultural outputs and ensure that farmers get good returns on their investments. This approach not only supports farmers financially but also contributes to the overall economy of Gujarat.

Overall, the increase in support prices and early irrigation plans are expected to empower farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the state. Farmers are hopeful that these measures will lead to better yields and improve their quality of life.
