Mahesana RTO Takes Action Against Underage Driving and School Transport Issues

The Mahesana Regional Transport Office (RTO) has launched a special drive to raise awareness about underage driving and school transportation safety. This initiative comes as a response to growing concerns about the safety of children traveling to and from school. Many young students are unaware of traffic rules and the responsibilities that come with driving. This lack of awareness can lead to accidents and endanger both themselves and others on the road.

The special drive took place on June 17 and 18, where officials conducted random checks at eight schools. The aim was to identify students and parents who were driving without a valid license. A total of 24 officers were divided into eight teams to carry out these checks. They issued fines to drivers who did not have the necessary licenses. In total, 120 vehicles were checked, resulting in over 214 offenses recorded and fines amounting to more than 500,000 Indian Rupees.

In addition to the checks, the RTO also held discussions with school principals to address the issue. They encouraged schools to hold meetings with parents to discuss the importance of safe driving and compliance with traffic laws. The RTO provided counseling to parents and students who came to pay their fines, aiming to educate them about the risks of underage driving.

Swapanil M. Patel, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer of Mahesana, emphasized the need for parents to be more vigilant when it comes to the safety of children going to school. He reminded parents that similar actions were taken last year, resulting in police action against some parents. This year, the district administration has once again appealed to parents to be sensitive to the issue.

The Mahesana RTO operates under the regulations set by the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. Its primary role is to ensure that all vehicles, both private and commercial, are registered and meet safety standards. Parents are encouraged to ensure that their children are not driving vehicles illegally, as it poses a risk not only to them but also to other road users.

The RTO’s efforts are part of a larger initiative across Gujarat, which has more than 38 RTOs working to regulate transportation in the state. The Mahesana RTO plays a crucial role in ensuring that road safety is maintained and that all drivers are held accountable for their actions.

It is essential for parents to understand the legal implications of underage driving. The law prohibits anyone below the age of 18 from holding a driving license. By driving without a license, young people and their parents can face legal consequences, including fines and penalties.

The RTO’s special drive aims not only to enforce the law but also to educate families about the importance of road safety. Parents are urged to have open conversations with their children about the dangers of driving without a license and the importance of following traffic rules.

In conclusion, the Mahesana RTO’s actions reflect a commitment to improving road safety and protecting children. Through awareness campaigns and strict enforcement, they hope to reduce incidents of underage driving and create safer school environments for students. It is a shared responsibility among parents, schools, and local authorities to ensure that all children travel safely to and from school.
