In Patan, police have arrested a man accused of defrauding an individual of Rs 8 lakh under the pretense of providing a job at the ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) company. The suspect, Deep Modi, was caught after a year-long search. He misled the victim, Savin, by claiming that a recruitment drive was ongoing at ONGC on August 27 last year.
Deep Modi promised to secure a job for Savin, who is the son of a nurse working at the Girja Maternity and Nursing Home in Patan. To gain Savin’s trust, Modi created fake job offer letters and merit list documents. He sent these fake documents via WhatsApp to convince Savin’s mother, Raikhaben Joshi, of the job’s authenticity.
Using these false documents, Modi managed to collect a total of Rs 8 lakh from the family through cheques. The police apprehended the 31-year-old suspect near Mira Darwaja in Patan. He faces multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code, including sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 472 (using a forged document), and 120(B) (criminal conspiracy).
After his arrest, the police transferred him to the B Division police station for further legal proceedings. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of job scams in the region, where fraudsters prey on the hopes of job seekers. Authorities are urging people to verify job offers thoroughly and report any suspicious activities to the police.
In related news, on the same day, police in Patan also conducted a separate operation. They stopped a suspicious car on the road from Dasad to Patan based on a tip-off. During the inspection, they found 157 bottles of foreign liquor hidden in the vehicle. The driver, Raju Bhai Tajaji Degama, a 21-year-old resident of Tarang Nagar in the Shankeshwar area of Patan district, was arrested.
The value of the seized liquor is estimated at Rs 2,54,400. Additionally, the police confiscated the car worth Rs 3 lakh and a mobile phone valued at Rs 10,000, bringing the total value of the seized goods to Rs 5,64,400. The police team involved in this operation included PI D.K. Solanki, Bharat Singh Jadeja, Deepak Bhai Jayantibhai, and Anil Dan Gadhvi. They are continuing their investigation into this case.
These incidents serve as a stark reminder for residents in Patan and surrounding areas to remain vigilant against scams and illegal activities. Authorities continue to work diligently to combat such crimes and ensure the safety of the community.
