On Saturday, a National Lok Adalat was organised in Gandhinagar and across India, as guided by the Gujarat High Court. This event aimed to resolve various legal cases, including those related to vehicle accidents. One significant case involved the family of a young man who tragically lost his life in a car accident near the Limbadiya Canal Bridge seven months ago.
The accident occurred when a car collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the death of 35-year-old Vijay Jagetia. He was a manager at Maruti Inox (India) Private Limited, earning a monthly salary of approximately ₹72,000. The incident took place on December 7, 2024, around 11:00 PM, while he was driving from Mochhal to Ahmedabad. Sadly, Vijay died at the scene of the accident.
Following the tragedy, his family, including his wife, Bhavanaben, and other relatives, sought compensation through the courts. They filed a claim in the Gandhinagar District Court for damages due to the loss of life and injuries sustained by family members in the accident.
During the National Lok Adalat, a settlement was reached. The court awarded Vijay’s family ₹1.15 crore as compensation. Additionally, his wife Bhavanaben received ₹5.5 lakh, and another injured family member, Sonalben, was awarded ₹17.3 lakh.
The presence of both parties and their lawyers facilitated a swift resolution, highlighting the effectiveness of the Lok Adalat system in providing justice efficiently. The event was attended by various legal representatives, including Harshil B. Shah for the petitioners and Ashutosh Dava for Tata AIG General Insurance Company.
The Lok Adalat aims to reduce the backlog of cases in the judiciary and provides an alternative to lengthy court battles. It allows parties to come to a mutual agreement in a less formal setting. This initiative not only helps individuals receive timely justice but also promotes a sense of community and support among those affected by legal disputes.
