The Chief Minister of Gujarat has announced a new proposal for a Rs. 1000 crore project to include Neliya Road in the Ring Road of Patan city. This project aims to construct a 31-kilometre long Ring Road, which will help ease the growing traffic problems in the area. Mukesh J. Patel, the Chairman of the Patan Municipality, mentioned that this verbal instruction was given by the Chief Minister directly.
Officials from the municipality recently met with the Chief Minister and several ministers in Gandhinagar. During this meeting, they discussed the need for land acquisition compensation and grants to widen the roads in the city. They also raised a request for hiring permanent staff in the municipality, as the number of employees has been decreasing.
The new proposal plans to develop the Ring Road in phases rather than all at once. This change will also include Neliya and its government roads in the project. By doing so, the expenses related to land acquisition can be reduced significantly. The regional municipal commissioner’s office also assured that the remaining development works in Patan would be completed quickly.
Additionally, the project aims to address the rising number of accidents and heavy vehicle traffic in the city. The Chief Minister has asked for a focus on enhancing the safety and efficiency of the roads. The municipality’s president, Hiralben Parmar, wrote to the Chief Minister on January 11, 2025, highlighting the urgent need for this project.
As part of the initiative, the municipality has already submitted the block estimate of the project to the government. Once the government approves the proposal, the next steps can begin. The anticipated cost of the project is Rs. 1000 crore, which is expected to significantly reduce the traffic burden on the state highway passing through the city.
