In Navsari district, the construction of the Purna River bridge is underway. This bridge will be the longest creek bridge in South Gujarat, measuring 1,645 meters. It will connect Jalalpur Taluka’s Borsi Machhiwad to Dandi, forming a crucial link in the 7-kilometer coastal highway. The new bridge is expected to ease the movement of people and boost economic activities in the region.
Currently, the bridge project has received administrative approval of ₹325 crores from the state’s Roads and Buildings Department. It is set to be completed within two years, providing safe and easy transportation for citizens. This bridge will directly link important sites such as the newly constructed medical college in Navsari, the Dandi National Salt Satyagraha Memorial, and the P.M. Textile Park, among others.
In addition to the Purna River bridge, another significant project is the Olpad bypass, which cost ₹5.78 crores and was completed on April 14, 2025. This 900-meter bypass alleviates traffic congestion in Olpad, reducing travel distance for vehicles from Sahol to Hazira by 650 meters. Previously, over 30,000 vehicles passed through Olpad’s internal roads daily, contributing to traffic jams and pollution. The bypass now ensures smoother passage for thousands of workers commuting to industrial units like Essar Steel and Reliance.
Furthermore, a new high-level bridge is being constructed on the Kadod-Kosadi road, connecting Bardoli, Valod, and Vyara talukas. This bridge, estimated to cost ₹70 crores, will be 570 meters long and 22 meters high. It aims to resolve the issue of flooding during monsoon seasons, benefiting over 9 lakh citizens across 42 villages. The project is expected to reduce travel distance for agriculture, education, and trade by 23 kilometers, easing daily challenges for locals.
In another notable initiative, a road using plastic waste has been constructed on the Nadod-Simla route in Navsari district. This 3.40 km road, costing ₹1.70 crore, enhances durability and water resistance while reducing construction costs and plastic waste. This innovative approach reflects the state government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and cost-saving measures.
These infrastructure projects are part of the Gujarat government’s ongoing efforts to address citizens’ daily challenges and drive development in South Gujarat. The Roads and Buildings Department’s systematic planning is helping to improve transportation facilities, making travel safer and more efficient. As these projects progress, they symbolize Gujarat’s growth and commitment to enhancing citizen welfare.
