Petlad Celebrates Sanskrit Glory Yatra

In Petlad, Gujarat, a grand celebration took place today as part of the Sanskrit Week. Organised by the education and Sanskrit departments, the Sanskrit Glory Yatra marched through the main roads of the city. This event attracted around three thousand students from various schools in the area. The Yatra aimed to enhance awareness about the importance of the Sanskrit language and culture.

During the Yatra, students recited Sanskrit shlokas continuously, making the entire city resonate with the beauty of the ancient language. Sanskrit plays a crucial role in preserving India’s cultural heritage. Many schools and gurukuls across the country teach Sanskrit to young learners. Petlad, known as a small Kashi, has a hundred-year-old school that educates over a hundred students in Sanskrit every year.

The Yatra commenced from the New Education High School, led by the local MLA, Ramanbhai Solanki, and the district collector, Pravin Chaudhari. The students, led by their teachers, participated with great enthusiasm. The district education officer, Kamini Trivedi, mentioned that there will be more activities as part of the Sanskrit Week, including a Sanskrit Speaking Day and a Sanskrit Literature Day in the coming days.

The Yatra included various dignitaries, including district development officer Devahuti and several other officials. They were all present to support this significant event that highlights the importance of Sanskrit in education. Collector Pravin Chaudhari gave a speech in Sanskrit, captivating everyone present. He emphasized that Sanskrit is not just a language but a science that plays a vital role in preserving the country’s cultural legacy.

Throughout the event, students displayed over ten tableaux, showcasing different themes related to Sanskrit. One of the most popular exhibits came from the Western English Medium School, which presented a non-working model of the Rukma aircraft, demonstrating the contributions of ancient Indian scientists like Maharishi Bharadwaj. Another tableau focused on the topic ‘Science in Sanskrit,’ sparking interest in the scientific perspectives of the language.

The atmosphere was filled with patriotic fervour as students chanted slogans like ‘Jayatu Sanskritam, Jayatu Bharatam,’ celebrating their pride in the Sanskrit language and Indian culture. The celebration not only aimed to instil a love for Sanskrit among the youth but also encouraged community participation in preserving the rich cultural heritage of India. This vibrant event in Petlad was a reminder of the significance of Sanskrit in today’s society and an encouragement for future generations to engage with this ancient language.
