Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is making special arrangements for the immersion of idols during the upcoming Dashama and Ganesh festivals. This year, AMC has planned to construct a total of 15 immersion pits along the banks of the Sabarmati River. Three immersion pits will be ready for Dashama idols, while 12 more will be set up for Ganesh idol immersion at seven different locations from August 27 to September 5.
The arrangements include facilities such as water supply, stages for welcoming devotees, and sound systems. There will also be ambulances and fire brigade vehicles on standby to ensure safety during the events. This year, the immersion pits will be located at Shankarbhuvan near the riverfront in Shahpur and at Master Colony, among other sites.
The Standing Committee has approved these arrangements to ensure a smooth process for the thousands of devotees expected to participate in the rituals. Devang Dani, the chairman of the Standing Committee, noted that devotees often gather for immersion at midnight following the completion of their rituals. To maintain hygiene and safety, AMC will conduct cleaning and disinfecting operations at the immersion sites before the events.
Devotees will be able to immerse idols on their own as large gatherings are restricted due to safety measures in place for the ongoing pandemic. The police have issued a public notice urging individuals and groups to refrain from processions and to perform idol immersion at home. This is aimed at preventing crowding and ensuring the safety of all participants.
