Shastri Bridge’s Left Wing Closed for Repairs in Ahmedabad

The National Highway Authority of India has announced that the left wing of Shastri Bridge in Ahmedabad will close for six months. This closure starts on Friday and affects medium and heavy vehicles. The bridge runs from Vishala Circle to Pirana. It will remain closed until February 8 of next year.

Earlier this year, the bridge underwent repairs and renovations. However, it seems that issues remain. Reports indicate that the bridge’s bearings and pedestal are still in poor condition. Due to this, the police have issued a notification advising drivers to find alternative routes.

Shastri Bridge has been a vital link for 43 years. It connects Vishala to Narol and is essential for accessing the Expressway and National Highway 8. Recognising the bridge’s importance, the government has already floated tenders for a new bridge. Additionally, there are plans for an elevated corridor from Narol to Sarkhej. This new 8-lane corridor is expected to cost ₹1,295 crore.

Local authorities understand the inconvenience this closure may cause. Therefore, they are urging drivers to use alternative routes to avoid delays. The police have suggested several detours to help manage traffic flow during this period.

The repairs aim to ensure the safety of all commuters. Heavy vehicles are banned from using the bridge during this time. This decision is part of a broader plan to enhance the infrastructure in the region. The new bridge and elevated corridor will help ease traffic congestion in the future.

In the meantime, commuters are advised to stay updated on traffic conditions. Regular updates from local authorities can help drivers navigate the changes more easily. With the closure of the left wing, it is crucial for everyone to plan their journeys carefully.

The government is committed to improving transportation in Ahmedabad. As work progresses, residents can look forward to better connectivity and reduced travel times once the new structures are completed. The Shastri Bridge repairs are just one part of a larger effort to modernise the city’s infrastructure.

In conclusion, the closure of the left wing of Shastri Bridge will affect many drivers. However, the upcoming improvements promise a more efficient and safer travel experience in the future. Commuters should remain patient and utilise the suggested alternative routes until the repairs are finished.
