Ship Capsizes in Sea During Ghogha-Hajira Ropeway Service

A ferry service, named Voyage Express, capsized in the sea while travelling from Ghogha to Hazira on the evening of October 25th. The ferry left Ghogha at 5:20 PM with around 245 passengers on board. It encountered technical difficulties and was stuck in the sea for nearly two hours. Passengers were left in fear for their lives as they awaited rescue.

Initial reports suggest that the ship became trapped in the Thang Circle area, where a navigation buoy may have caused the issue. Strong currents due to the monsoon made the situation more dangerous.

Despite multiple attempts to regain control, the Voyage Express could not move towards Hazira. After two long hours, the decision was made to turn back to Ghogha. Fortunately, a tugboat was able to assist, and by 10:30 PM, the ferry safely returned to Ghogha with all passengers and vehicles intact.

As the ship was stuck, people waiting at Hazira grew anxious. Passengers tried to contact their families to share their concerns. Thankfully, all aboard were unharmed, which brought relief to everyone involved. However, this incident has sparked frustration among passengers, as similar occurrences have happened in the past.

The Ghogha-Hazira ferry service is an important transportation link in Gujarat. It significantly reduces travel time between Bhavnagar and Surat. Normally, the journey by road takes around eight hours, but this ferry service offers a faster route, covering the distance in just two hours. Many local residents rely on this service for their daily commute.

The Voyage Express is part of a modernised ferry service that was recently inaugurated, aiming to enhance travel between these two key locations. This incident raises questions about safety and reliability in ferry services. Authorities must ensure that such technical failures do not occur in the future, as they can put lives at risk.

Local leaders and residents are now calling for improved safety measures and better maintenance of the vessels. As Gujarat continues to develop its transportation infrastructure, ensuring passenger safety should be a top priority. This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges that come with developing a modern transport system in a state known for its rich maritime history.

The Ghogha-Hazira service is part of a larger network of ferry services that have been introduced to facilitate travel across the region. With the recent emphasis on increasing connectivity and reducing travel times, passengers hope that authorities will take swift action to address the concerns raised by this incident. For now, the safe return of all passengers is a relief, but the need for vigilance and improvement in ferry operations remains critical.
