In Gujarat, the government is taking significant steps to support disabled candidates in the UPSC exams. The Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIA) in Ahmedabad is at the forefront of this initiative. On July 20, 2025, the SPIA organized an entrance exam for its training classes. Over 10,000 candidates participated, showing great interest in civil services. The entrance exam followed the UPSC pattern, consisting of two papers.
The SPIA aims to help more candidates from Gujarat succeed in the UPSC exams. It offers free training classes at various locations, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, and Mehsana. In total, 635 candidates are registered for these classes.
Candidates receive not only free training but also access to a modern library and free Wi-Fi. Additionally, those enrolled can get monthly incentives for up to seven months. This support continues through different stages of the UPSC exam process.
Under the leadership of Director Harit Shukla, the SPIA has made special arrangements for disabled candidates. They contacted these candidates in advance to understand their needs. This way, disabled candidates can sit for the exam without any issues. The goal is to ensure they have the same opportunities as other candidates to succeed in their careers.
In past years, candidates who trained at SPIA have achieved remarkable success in the UPSC exams. In 2021-22, 16 candidates passed, while in 2022-23, 26 candidates succeeded. In 2023-24, another 26 candidates cleared the exams. For the 2024 preliminary exams, 259 candidates from both current and previous batches passed, with 70 qualifying for interviews. Ultimately, 26 SPIA candidates were selected in the final results of the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024.
So far, a total of 311 candidates from SPIA have cleared various All India Services and other central services. Last year, candidates from Gujarat secured the second, fourth, and thirtieth ranks in the UPSC results. Given this successful track record, this year saw a significant increase in candidates for the SPIA UPSC training classes.
The SPIA is determined to continue supporting candidates through its Civil Services Study Centre. The successful organisation of the entrance exam is a testament to the hard work and commitment of SPIA and its staff. They aim to ensure that every candidate, regardless of their background or abilities, has a fair chance to achieve their dreams in public service.
This initiative not only empowers disabled candidates but also sets a precedent for inclusivity in competitive examinations across India. The SPIA is paving the way for a brighter future for all aspiring civil servants in Gujarat.
