Successful Liver Cancer Surgeries for Three Children at SVP Hospital

In Ahmedabad, three children suffering from liver cancer underwent successful surgeries at SVP Hospital. They were referred from the Gujarat Cancer and Research Center after chemotherapy. The youngest patient was just 8 months old, and her right liver lobe was removed. The second child, a 5-year-old boy, had a rare form of cancer called embryonal sarcoma, which is found in one in a million children. The third child, a 12-year-old, had surgery four years ago for a tumor, but the cancer returned, requiring another surgery.

All three children are now healthy. The team of pediatric surgeons at SVP Hospital, led by Dr. Sudhir Chandna, Dr. Urvish Parikh, and Dr. Ramendra Shukla, has successfully treated seven similar rare cases. Hepatoblastoma, the type of cancer found in these children, is extremely rare and requires special skills for surgery.

In private hospitals, the cost of such surgeries can reach up to 4-5 lakh rupees. However, two of the children received free surgeries under the Prime Minister Ayushman Card scheme. This initiative aims to provide affordable healthcare to families in need.

The successful treatment of these children highlights the capabilities of SVP Hospital’s pediatric surgery department. The hospital is equipped with advanced medical facilities and a dedicated team of professionals who are committed to improving the lives of their young patients.

A remarkable story involves a 7-month-old boy from Bhuj, who was referred to SVP after initial treatment at a civil hospital. He was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma after tests revealed a lump in his abdomen. Following 11 months of chemotherapy, he required surgery to remove part of his liver. Thanks to the expert team at SVP Hospital, the surgery was successful, and the boy is recovering well.

Another case included a 2-year-old boy from Rajasthan and a 13-year-old boy from Rajkot, both of whom underwent successful liver surgeries recently. The 13-year-old’s surgery lasted six hours, during which 50% of his liver was removed. He was discharged after recovering from a critical condition. The 2-year-old boy had received four doses of chemotherapy before his surgery at SVP Hospital.

These stories of bravery and medical excellence show the importance of timely intervention and specialized care in treating childhood cancers. Families are encouraged to seek help early to improve outcomes for their children. The success of these operations strengthens the belief in the capabilities of local hospitals and the healthcare system in Gujarat, making it a beacon of hope for many families facing similar challenges.
