Tanker’s Removal from Anand’s Gambiri Bridge Marks End of 23-Day Standstill

In Anand, Gujarat, a significant event unfolded recently when a tanker that had been hanging over the Gambiri Bridge was finally removed. This incident attracted public attention after the bridge suffered damage 27 days earlier. The bridge, which connects Anand and Vadodara, was the site of a serious accident that raised safety concerns among the public and local authorities.

After the bridge partially collapsed, a chemical tanker became stuck, creating a dangerous situation. To address this, the Porbandar-based marine salvage expert company was called in. Their team worked diligently to safely lift the tanker using advanced equipment and tools. This operation was closely monitored by the Anand district collector and involved a dedicated rescue team to ensure safety during the process.

The Gambiri Bridge is crucial for daily commuters, with thousands of vehicles passing over it every day, along with more than 80 trains running underneath. Following the accident, inspections were carried out on four other overbridges in the Anand city area. Notably, the Bhalaj overbridge, which is around 40 years old, showed signs of severe deterioration, including cracks in its columns.

Local authorities had previously allocated 3 crores for repairs to the Bhalaj overbridge, but much of the work was only done on the slopes rather than the main structure, leading to concerns about its safety. The bridge’s condition has raised many questions, especially since it is a vital route for both vehicles and trains.

Residents expressed their frustrations regarding the lack of maintenance and the potential for future accidents. The local municipality has pledged to address these issues to prevent further incidents. After the Gambiri bridge accident, the focus is now on ensuring that all bridges in the area are safe for public use.

As the tanker was finally removed, it marked a significant step towards restoring traffic flow and addressing the community’s concerns. The incident has highlighted the urgent need for regular maintenance and inspection of infrastructure to ensure public safety. Authorities are now under pressure to take action and ensure that such accidents do not occur in the future.

In conclusion, the removal of the tanker from Gambiri Bridge not only restores normalcy in Anand but also serves as a wake-up call for local authorities regarding the importance of infrastructure maintenance. Residents hope that the lessons learned from this incident will lead to better safety measures and regular inspections of bridges across the region.
