A group of 28 tribal students from Tapi district recently returned from an inspiring visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Sriharikota, Chennai. This educational trip was organised under the ‘Tapi Ke Taare’ project. The students, who belong to 15 government schools in the district, experienced a unique opportunity to explore the world of science and technology.
Upon their return, the students were welcomed at Surat Airport by the Minister of Tribal Development and Education, Dr. Kuberbhai Dindor, along with the Minister of Forest and Environment, Mukeshbhai Patel. Both ministers engaged in discussions with the students, encouraging them to share their experiences and aspirations.
Dr. Dindor highlighted the significance of this initiative, aimed at developing a scientific approach among tribal children. He mentioned that such educational trips could inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, and space.
During their visit to ISRO, the students explored the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, known as the ‘Spaceport of India’. They witnessed the satellite launch infrastructure and learned about the launch processes and the challenges faced in space exploration. The experience was described by the students as a profound inspiration for their future careers.
The journey began with rigorous selection criteria. Students from standard 11 and 12 from both tribal and government schools took a 100-mark exam based on their science textbooks. This test aimed to assess their knowledge and reasoning skills. The best-performing students were chosen for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The trip was not just about learning; it also allowed the students to taste new experiences. They enjoyed local cuisine in Chennai, including the famous dosa. The visit was a blend of education and adventure, leaving a lasting impression on the young minds.
Minister Mukeshbhai Patel expressed his pride in the students, saying they set an inspiring example of talent and brilliance. He noted that the experience would remain a memorable part of their lives and serve as a stepping stone for their future in science and technology.
The initiative has been well-received and is expected to be implemented in other tribal districts across Gujarat, encouraging more students to engage in scientific exploration and education.
This project aligns with the government’s commitment to uplift tribal communities and enhance educational opportunities. Such innovative trips not only provide knowledge but also encourage students to dream big and aim high in their careers.
The journey to ISRO marks a significant step towards fostering a generation of scientifically inclined individuals from tribal backgrounds. As these students reflect on their experiences, they carry with them the hope of making a difference in the fields of science and technology in the future.
