Three Children Overcome Liver Cancer at SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad

In Ahmedabad, three children have received a new life after battling liver cancer at SVP Hospital. This inspiring story involves an 8-month-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, and a 12-year-old boy. All three suffered from rare types of liver cancer. Their journey to recovery offers hope to many families facing similar challenges.

Liver cancer is a frightening word, especially for children. It brings pain and fear to families. At SVP Hospital, these three families found a ray of hope. The hospital is known for its advanced facilities and skilled doctors. The children underwent successful surgeries that were complex yet crucial for their survival.

The surgeries cost around 4 to 5 lakh rupees in private hospitals. However, thanks to the Prime Minister’s Ayushman card, two of the children received treatment completely free of charge. This initiative aims to make healthcare accessible to those in need.

The 5-year-old boy was diagnosed with embryonal sarcoma, a rare and complex form of liver cancer. He is among only one in a crore of children to have this type of cancer. The surgery was challenging, but the dedicated team at SVP Hospital, led by Dr. Sudhir Chandna, performed it successfully.

Dr. Chandna and his team have completed seven similar rare surgeries at SVP Hospital since 2025. Their success has drawn attention from pediatric surgeons across the country. Many are impressed that such rare tumor surgeries are being performed successfully in a government hospital.

The children first received chemotherapy at the Gujarat Cancer and Research Centre before being referred to SVP Hospital’s pediatric surgery department. The medical team included Dr. Urvish Parikh and Dr. Ramendra Shukla, who provided not only surgical care but also emotional support to the families.

The youngest patient, an 8-month-old girl, had half of her liver removed during surgery. She is now recovering well. The 12-year-old boy had surgery four years ago for a tumor, but the cancer returned. His re-do surgery was risky, yet the team managed to complete it successfully.

Hepatoblastoma, the type of liver cancer these children had, is very rare. If treated on time, children can lead normal lives. The surgery requires precision, experience, and advanced infrastructure, all of which SVP Hospital offers.

These success stories highlight the importance of timely medical intervention and the impact of skilled healthcare professionals. The children are now healthy and can enjoy life as any other child would. Their journey gives hope to many families who are struggling with similar health issues. The team at SVP Hospital has shown that with the right support and resources, even the most challenging health battles can be won.
