Tragic Honor Killing in Banaskantha: Father Kills Daughter Over Love Affair

A shocking incident has occurred in Banaskantha, Gujarat. A father killed his daughter, who was in a live-in relationship. This tragic event unfolded in Tharad, where the girl’s family strongly opposed her relationship. The father, along with the girl’s uncle, is accused of the crime. After killing her, they performed her last rites overnight, trying to hide the evidence.

The victim lived in a hostel in Palanpur while preparing for the NEET exam. During this time, she developed a romantic relationship with a young man named Hitesh Hirjibhai Chaudhary from Vadgamda. They decided to marry after developing their friendship into love.

On June 4, 2025, the girl returned to her family for a wedding celebration. After the event, she expressed her desire to return to Palanpur. However, her family refused, fearing they would force her into an unwanted marriage. She confided in her boyfriend about her family’s pressure and asked him to rescue her from this situation.

On June 6, 2025, Hitesh took her to Ahmedabad, where they happily entered into a friendship agreement. Meanwhile, the girl’s family reported her missing at the Tharad police station, prompting the police to investigate.

On June 12, 2025, the police found both of them in Rajasthan and brought them back to Tharad. While the girl was returned to her family, Hitesh was arrested for previous charges. After being released on bail on June 21, 2025, Hitesh discovered alarming messages from his girlfriend on his phone. She had expressed fear that her family would force her into marriage and harm her if she did not comply.

On June 23, 2025, Hitesh filed a plea in the Gujarat High Court seeking protection for the girl. The court instructed the Tharad police to ensure her presence in court by June 27, 2025. Tragically, before this could happen, on the night of June 24, 2025, the girl’s father and uncle forced her to drink milk laced with sleeping pills, rendered her unconscious, and then killed her.

Hitesh became suspicious and filed a complaint with the Banaskantha Superintendent of Police, urging for an impartial investigation. Initially, the Tharad DySP investigated and later, the Danta division DySP confirmed that the girl’s death was not natural or self-inflicted; it was a murder committed by her father and uncle.

Following this, legal action was initiated against them. The community is in shock over this heinous act, which highlights the ongoing issue of honor killings in India. Many are calling for stricter laws and better protection for individuals in love, especially from their own families.

This incident raises crucial questions about societal norms and family honor, which often lead to tragic outcomes. It is a reminder of the need for awareness and education on such sensitive issues. Everyone deserves the right to choose their partner without fear of violence or retribution from their families. The investigation is ongoing, and the accused are in police custody, awaiting trial. The community hopes for justice for the young girl who lost her life simply because she wanted to love freely.
