In a shocking case from Gujarat, a father has been accused of drowning his seven-year-old daughter in a canal. The incident took place in Kapadvanj, located in the Nadiad district. The girl’s mother reported the incident to the police after she confided in her brother about the events that unfolded.
The father, Vijay Solanki, reportedly had a strong desire for a son and was unhappy with the birth of his daughters. This led to frequent arguments between him and his wife, Anjana. They had two daughters, Bhumi and Hetal. Anjana often returned to her parents’ home due to these disputes, but Vijay would convince her to return home each time.
On July 10, during the festival of Gurupurnima, Vijay took Anjana and their daughter Bhumi to a temple. After their visit, Anjana insisted on returning to her parents’ home. However, Vijay refused and expressed his disappointment over having daughters instead of a son.
While riding back home on their motorcycle, Vijay stopped near the Vaghaavat Bridge over the Narmada Canal. In a shocking turn of events, he lifted Bhumi and threw her into the canal. Anjana screamed in panic, but Vijay ignored her pleas. Frightened, Anjana fled the scene.
Following the incident, Vijay threatened Anjana, warning her not to tell anyone or he would divorce her. He then took her back to his home, where she spent a sleepless night, terrified about the fate of her daughter. The next day, Bhumi’s body was recovered from the canal, leading to a police investigation.
During the initial investigation, Vijay pressured Anjana to say that Bhumi fell into the canal while they were fishing. Out of fear, Anjana complied. However, when she shared the true story with her brothers, they encouraged her to report the matter to the police.
Finally, Anjana mustered the courage to file a complaint against Vijay. The police have since arrested him and charged him with murder. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
This deeply disturbing case highlights issues of domestic violence and the societal pressures often placed on families regarding gender. It raises important questions about the value of daughters and the need for greater awareness and support for women experiencing domestic disputes.
