In a significant move, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a plan to enhance urban public welfare during the Urban Development Year 2025. This initiative aims to make cities more convenient and livable for residents. The Chief Minister’s approach aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming cities into dynamic centres of economic activity.
As part of this plan, Patel has approved over ₹1,700 crore for various development projects across six newly formed municipal corporations and five municipalities. This includes substantial allocations for the cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
The celebration of Urban Development Year 2025 reflects a commitment to improving city infrastructure and services. The state government aims to provide better facilities for citizens to enhance their quality of life. This initiative follows a journey that began with the celebration of Urban Development Year back in 2005, initiated by Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Patel’s announcement comes after a series of successful urban management strategies that have turned Gujarat’s cities into well-planned urban spaces. The Chief Minister believes that urbanisation offers a unique opportunity for development, and through citizen participation, vibrant and clean cities can be achieved.
On May 27, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Urban Development Year celebrations, emphasizing the importance of economic activity in cities. Patel’s approval of projects worth ₹1,700 crore under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme aims to realise this vision.
The funds will be distributed among various municipalities, with Ahmedabad receiving ₹546 crore and Gandhinagar getting ₹32 crore. Newly formed municipalities such as Anand, Morbi, Surendranagar, Nadiad, Vapi, and Navsari will also benefit from significant allocations.
In addition to these projects, Patel has earmarked ₹676.28 crore for 247 infrastructural works in the six new municipal corporations. These include improvements to street lighting, solar facilities, city beautification, public gardens, drainage systems, and stormwater management.
Furthermore, under the Urban Road Scheme, the Chief Minister has approved ₹652.78 crore for road renovations and repairs in various cities, ensuring better connectivity and infrastructure.
The Chief Minister’s vision also includes repairing filter plants and enhancing drainage systems. A total of ₹191.91 crore has been allocated for these essential services in Surendranagar, Vapi, and Anand.
Additionally, projects for drinking water supply and other basic facilities are in the pipeline, with ₹67.35 crore approved for municipalities like Himatnagar and Siddhpur. This focus on providing clean drinking water is crucial for the newly incorporated areas of the cities.
By investing in urban public welfare, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel hopes to empower citizens and enhance their living standards. The Urban Development Year 2025 aims to support this goal, promising a brighter future for Gujarat’s urban areas. With a clear vision and substantial funding, the state government is set to transform cities into thriving hubs for economic and social development.
