In a significant employment drive, the Western Railway has appointed 347 new employees across Gujarat. This event is part of a larger initiative where over 51,000 new government employees were offered appointment letters. The employment fairs were held in key locations including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Ratlam, where many candidates were present from various ministries and departments.
On July 12, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the newly appointed employees via video conference. During this event, he highlighted the importance of public service and encouraged the new recruits to serve the nation diligently. In total, 51,000 appointment letters were distributed across 47 locations throughout India, with each site having distinguished guests, including central ministers.
In Gujarat, the Western Railway conducted employment fairs in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Ratlam. Out of the 347 appointees, 124 are from Ahmedabad alone. The new employees represent various departments, including the Indian Railways, Indian Post, and the Revenue Department, among others. Appointment letters were handed out by the dignitaries present at each location.
In Ahmedabad, the event featured several notable figures, including the Union Minister of Labour, Employment, Youth Affairs, and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, and local MPs and MLAs. A total of 124 newly appointed employees attended this particular event, with 66 of them being from the railways. This initiative aims to bolster employment opportunities in the region and improve public services.
The Western Railway has shown its commitment to serving the nation, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. It played a crucial role in supplying essential goods, including milk, medicines, grains, and medical equipment, during the lockdown. The railway maintained operations by running special parcel trains to ensure the timely delivery of these necessary items.
From March 23, 2020, to July 27, 2020, the Western Railway transported approximately 85,000 tonnes of goods using 426 special parcel trains, generating significant revenue. During this period, 64 milk trains were operated, transporting over 48,000 tonnes of milk, contributing to the economy.
Overall, the recent appointment of new employees reflects the government’s efforts to enhance employment and public services in Gujarat. The Western Railway’s initiatives not only provide jobs but also ensure the continuous supply of essential goods, thereby contributing to the overall development of the region.
