In Vadodara, a young man named Devdas lost a finger due to an accident caused by a pothole. This incident highlights the dangers posed by potholes in the city. On July 12, Devdas was riding his bike early in the morning to buy milk. As he approached the Dava crossroads on Bill Canal Road, he encountered a deep pothole. The pothole caused his bike to slip, and he fell hard on the ground. Sadly, he lost a part of his right hand finger in the fall. Devdas blames the local municipal corporation for the accident. He states, ‘The pothole made my bike slip, and I lost my finger in this accident. I work in a private company, and my job relies heavily on computer work. This injury will make it difficult for me to work.’ Devdas lives in Planetarium-1 on Bill Canal Road. He explained that he was riding his bike at around 6 am when he hit the pothole. He said, ‘There were multiple potholes at the crossroads. My bike slipped because of them, and I fell down. My finger broke off on impact.’ After the accident, bystanders helped him get out of the pothole, and he called his wife for assistance. They went to a nearby hospital, where doctors informed him that surgery was necessary. Devdas mentioned, ‘The doctor said the finger was lost completely. The pothole problem caused this injury. The municipal corporation is entirely responsible for this incident.’ He suffers not only from physical pain but also fears for his job. ‘I am the only breadwinner in my family of four. My children are still young, and my wife takes care of the home. Losing my finger puts a lot of strain on my ability to earn,’ he added. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of roads in Vadodara. Many residents have complained about potholes affecting their daily lives. Local officials have been urged to address the issue of potholes to prevent further accidents. Devdas is now seeking compensation from the municipal corporation for the losses he has faced due to their negligence. He hopes that sharing his story will highlight the dangers of the city’s roads and push for better road maintenance in the future.
